Dr.Sanduskymentor // pediatricianI had to opportunity to interview Dr. Sandusky by email through a series of questions. Prior to the interview, I was able to visit her office and discuss problems related to her profession. Through the email, I gained more knowledge of what Dr. Sandusky faces while on the floor as well as issues. The following is the interview: |
Interview
1. Are there any problems or stressful issues that you or Pediatricians have faced while on the floor?
-Technology wise
-The impact on people
- ¨There’s always stressful situations working in the clinic-kids w/ low oxygen levels, trying to figure out what’s causing a kid to be sick (find the right diagnosis to treat) all while you’re running 1 hour behind and have 3 more rooms waiting for you; but being stressed in school constantly prepares you for being stressed in the clinic. It’s a skill you have to adapt to and master b/c it’ll never get easier. ¨
- ¨Easiest part=making connections w/ my families (that’s the easiest/best part). You go into medicine b/c you genuinely LIKE people and want to HELP them/their families-becoming integrated into your patients/their families’ lives is what makes it worthwhile!¨
-Technology wise
-The impact on people
- ¨Medicine’s future is TOTALLY technology. Even w/ Southwest Medical, the ‘Now clinic’ is virtual visits from anywhere w/ a doctor on the phone. I fear the days of seeing patients in a clinic will go away and everything will turn to electronics.¨
- ¨Obesity is a worsening issue-more and more kids are obese and overweight at younger and younger ages. This could be due to fast food, technology (phones, Ipads, video games=less physical exercise)¨
- ¨Medicine isn’t easy or else everyone would be doing it. Schooling will stress you out to the max, you’ll want to quit, you’ll have some breakdowns along the way and think you can’t do it anymore, but you CAN and you WILL-you just have to buckle down and keep going.¨
